Storytelling

Kurt & Lauren

The Artist Room is back for the most intimate and altering 45-minute performance of your life. Enter and face your fears.

Our latest installment of The Artist Room is the most in-depth and personal yet. Comedians and storytellers Kurt Braunohler and Lauren Cook explore the connection between ends and beginnings, death and birth in an immersive site-specific theatrical performance.

Last year, Kurt’s mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Last year, Kurt and Lauren decided to get pregnant. Kurt and Lauren guide us through their autobiographical story on the passing of the mantle of motherhood, the dark humor and poignant farce of confronting death.

The audience will become part of the narrative and participate in the story as it unfolds. We uncover what is haunting you and help you confront your deepest fears.

Each performance is 45-minutes. Each individual holders is required to sign-up for a specific time-slot. Please arrive on time for your performance. There will be no late entry.

The Artist Room is an immersive artist-in-residency program sponsored by Washington Square Hotel and produced by CMYK.

Artist Biography

Kurt BraunohlerScreen Shot 2016-09-02 at 10.12.12 AM is a comedian, skywriter, and jet-skier, who has committed his career (perhaps foolishly) to “inserting absurdity into stranger’s lives to make the world a better place.” His stand up has been described as, “refreshing idiocy from an enthusiastic weirdo”, by his own mother. He has an album, a half-hour Comedy Central Special, and late night spots on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Conan, and Late Night with Seth Meyers. His first televised hour of comedy will come out on Comedy Central later this year. And he will appear in the upcoming Judd Apatow produced film, “The Big Sick” alongside Holly Hunter and Ray Ramano, which he also wrote on.

lauren483Lauren Cook is a writer and an actress. She won an Emmy in the New Media category for writing and producing the web series “FLOATERS.” Her stories have aired on KCRW’s acclaimed show, Unfictional. Lauren co-hosts and produces a storytelling show, Radio Picture Show the second Wednesday of every month at The Virgil in LA.

Lauren and Kurt have previously collaborated on The L.A.-zy River, an annual, rogue tube race down the LA River, and #TheLoveButt, a cross-country tour with a gigantic, mobile derrière. They will also launch WEDLOCK, an original audio series, as part of Audible Channels in the winter of 2016.
